Located south of Mountain Home, the Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center is a key research facility for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Established in 1969 on the site of a former fish hatchery, the center utilizes the constant-temperature waters of Stockman's Springs to study both cold-water and warm-water fish species. The 55.8-acre property features 25 research ponds, laboratories, and offices dedicated to advancing inland fisheries management.
The center is open to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding state holidays. Visits require advance arrangement.
